Pasifika SiS Island Night 2025
Last Wednesday 12 March 2025, the Manukau Institute of Technology came alive with the vibrant sounds, colours, and spirit of the Pacific as sports industry leaders gathered for the Pasifika Sisters in Sport Island Night.
This special event was a celebration of our 13 Young Pacific Leaders Women’s Sports Programme participants, who travelled from 10 different Pacific countries to be part of this empowering journey.
The night was a true reflection of what Pasifika sport is all about: community, connection, and culture. From the moment guests arrived, they were welcomed with the warmth of Pacific hospitality and immersed in an atmosphere that honoured our shared heritage.
Huge thanks to our amazing sponsors including Tapasā, Pasifika Aotearoa Women’s Sport Inc, and Moana Pasifika—for making this event possible!
A Night of Inspiration and Empowerment
The event brought together some of the most influential voices in Pasifika sports, creating a space for mentorship, networking, and recognition. Our programme participants, each representing their home country with pride, had the chance to share their experiences, challenges, and aspirations with the industry leaders who have paved the way before them.
A powerful moment of the night came with the opening testimony of Reverend Saane Langi, whose words resonated deeply with everyone in attendance,
“As I thought about how to encourage you champions, I want to applaud the incredible work you’re doing. Your impact on this generation will shape and inspire the generations to come.”
Her moving speech reminded us all that leadership in sports goes beyond the court or field; it is about carrying forward the values of service, resilience, and unity.
To strengthen connections among the incredible women in the room, the event featured a quick speed dating activity, not the romantic kind but a fun and fast-paced networking session where participants rotated around the room and introduced themselves, sharing their goals, and finding common ground. Laughter and lively conversations filled the space, breaking down barriers and setting the stage for meaningful relationships and mentorships to grow.
The highlight of the night was the recognition of the Young Pacific Leaders Women’s Sports Programme participants, whose dedication and passion for sports leadership were celebrated. As they stood before the crowd, it was clear that these young women are not just the future of Pacific sports—they are already shaping its present.
Looking Ahead
As the evening came to a close, the message was clear: Pasifika women in sports are a force to be reckoned with. The event was not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to fostering leadership, confidence, and opportunities for young women across the Pacific.
Pasifika Sisters Island Night was more than just an event—it was a movement, a reminder of the power of unity, and a step towards ensuring that our young women continue to thrive in sports, leadership, and beyond.
Fa’afetai, Vinaka, Malo ‘aupito, and Meitaki ma’ata to everyone who made this night unforgettable. The journey continues, and we can’t wait to see where these incredible young leaders take us next!
